ABOUT CAROL

CAROL KRAMER, LCSW

Advanced Imago Therapist
Imago Institute Faculty Member
Certified Imago Couples & Singles
Workshop Presenter

My own experience with Imago demonstrates its power. As an intern working towards my MSW, I was thrown into work with individuals, couples, and families first at a youth residence center and then at a community multi-service agency.

I had a solid understanding of psychodynamic theory but was deeply aware that I lacked a systematic framework to help clients move towards better connection.

I am an Advanced Imago Therapist, trained by Dr. Harville Hendrix, as well as an Imago Institute Faculty Member, and a Certified Imago Couples and Singles Workshop presenter.

In my work with couples, individuals and groups, I use various modalities, such as EMDR, Focusing and Psychodrama. I have a background in Modern Analysis, Gestalt Therapy and Theater. I was also a high school English and Drama teacher and clinician for the NYC Board of Education for over 20 years. I have specialized in relationship issues and anger management in my work with couples, individuals and families.

ABOUT IMAGO & IMAGO THERAPY

Imago, Latin for image, is a psychotherapeutic approach based on the fundamental role of relationship in shaping human development, personality and behavior from childhood through maturity. The unique wisdom of Imago Therapy is its explicit focus on the critical relationship(s) that create the individual’s sense of self and form the basis for relationships to others.

IMAGO THERAPY

Imago Therapy has evolved over thirty years since its initial development by
Dr. Harville Hendrix. It became widely known to the lay public after Dr. Hendrix and his wife, Helen La Kelly Hunt wrote the best-selling book, Getting the Love You Want and began a series of regular appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

IMAGO DIALOGUE

At the heart of the Imago process is the Imago Dialogue – a structured conversation that enables participants to safely navigate the rough waters of relationship, not by avoiding areas of challenge, but by buffering those areas through the guided dialogue process, enabling them to relate more consciously and empathically.

IMAGO & THE HUMAN CONDITION

While Imago is based on complex understanding of the human condition aligned with findings from neuroscience and the literature of psychotherapy, what appealed to Oprah and makes Imago such a powerful tool for practitioners is its practicality. Imago is a process-based, psycho-educational approach that provides the therapist with cognitive, behavioral and effective tools that can be brought to bear on a wide range of relationship challenges in a broad array. of therapeutic settings.
